For the session 2020-2021, the MS MIRIS welcomed 11 students of 9 different nationalities: Afghanistan, Algeria, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Morocco. After the common core courses in Fontainebleau which will end at the end of January 2021, 7 of them will stay in Fontainebleau to follow the courses of option 1 (Mining operations) while 5 will go to Nancy to follow the courses of options 2 (Exploration and deposit modelling) and 3 (Ore processing and beneficiation). The training started with the traditional "geology and mining" field course in Occitania: geological structures of the Arc de St Chinian and the Montagne Noire, redevelopment of the coal mines of Graissessac, visit of the Imerys talc quarry in Luzenac. The students then followed courses on sampling and economic evaluation of mining projects. They have just started one of the essential modules of the training devoted to environmental, social and human issues. The first part will run until the end of 2020 and will deal with environmental and social impact studies, relations between mines and territories, human and safety issues and will end with training in risk and crisis management.
